Hannah Tate (Music A Level)

Case Study

Studying Music A level has turned a hobby into something I love and has made me want to make a career out of music. The department is so friendly and encouraging and although I found this A level very challenging at first, it was so rewarding and enjoyable and I really feel my understanding of music has increased enormously. I wasn’t too keen on going to College at all originally, but if I hadn’t chosen to do Music I would never have considered going on to study it later on. Next year I am going to Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance to do a degree in music performance. The course is quite practically focussed, however having the academic knowledge from studying Music at College will help because I feel like a more confident and rounded musician. A level Music is never repetitive or boring because as we cover performance, composition, listening and writing essays, so we learn about and do every aspect of the subject. The ensembles at Godalming have been high points in my week, being really fun and not too formal while things we study in class have heightened my awareness of the music in day-to-day life, meaning just casual listening has become much more interesting.
